El Camino in Atherton – Unsafe Crossing

Two pedestrians were seriously injured crossing El Camino Real at Isabella in Atherton on September 30.   For anyone who walks and bikes in the area, crossing El Camino in Atherton is a known hazard.   To get a feel for the danger, watch this video where experienced bike commuter Margaret Pye shows how she crosses the street.

Stoplights on the 6-lane road are far apart, and vehicles travel through at high speed.  Two years ago, a 62-year old Christopher Chandler of Redwood City was killed in the same crosswalk while trying to cross the street on his bike.
