Menlo Park to get its first bike corral

Francesca Philip, owner of Menlo Yoga Pilates at 1011 El Camino Real, heard from her customers that they did not have room to park their bikes. She asked city staff what she could do to help her customers. Based on current city policy that is being put into practice for the first time, she is adding a 10-bike rack in the space that is currently occupied by only one car. The racks are on order and may be installed later this month.

A similar bike corral in front of Palo Alto’s popular Coupa Cafe is typically seen holding 5-10 parked bicycles in a space that previously hosted only one car. The corral is clearly popular with customers. And by using space more efficiently, and making it easy for customers to bike their bikes safely, more parking spaces are left free for cars.
